St. Andrews Society Room

St. Andrews Hall is said to be a “Detroit cultural and architectural gem,” according to a Detroit Metro Times article written By Aaron Robertson. What a great compliment which speaks directly to a major principal in our sustainable design process which is to first preserve as much of the heritage and integrity of the original structure as possible.
For the first time since its inception over 100 years ago St. Andrews was given a major renovation. We removed the original plaster, exposing the existing brick, and faux metal ceiling tiles were added for a classical style ceiling, a nice compliment to the re-finished hardwood floors. By widening the existing mezzanine and stairway patrons can enjoy spectacular view of the stage and more space for dining or to just sit and mingle. Metal insets on the existing railing were replaced with glass for a more elegant look.
One of the best features of this renovation is a large opening on the second story which connects the society room to the concert theatre hall and concert mezzanine so that live performances can be enjoyed throughout the entire second level. When needed, large wooden doors allow the society room to be closed off for private events. Other upgrades include: new lighting, millwork, and a full service wet bar.
The owner later added a ten foot tall stained glass window encased in mahogany wood frames which combined with other design features, create an elegant look that pays homage to this structure’s Irish culture with an American rock and roll twist.
